What are the benefits of porcelain paving?
Porcelain paving is a great alternative to sandstone paving for those who want to create a low maintenance garden patio. Its strong and hard-wearing and is resistant to salt and acid, and has a high resistance to algae and mould. Other benefits of porcelain paving include:
- High slip resistance
- High stain resistance, due to porcelain being a low porous material
- Frost resistant
- Easy to clean
Vitrified porcelain paving
Our Vitripiazza porcelain paving ranges are produced through the vitrification of its component materials, i.e. clays, feldspar and siliceous sands. These materials are sintered through firing in kilns in excess of 1200ºC, compacting the elements which closes the pores and giving the porcelain its excellent technical properties that enable it to be a perfect choice for paving.
What are the disadvantages of porcelain paving?
Porcelain paving slabs are harder to lay then sandstone and concrete, which may be seen as a disadvantage. We’ve pulled together a guide on how to lay porcelain paving to make this process easier.
Porcelain paving slabs are also more expensive per m2 than most natural stone slabs, but we believe that the long term benefits outweigh the initial cost.

Full-bodied porcelain paving is a premium choice with the highest quality aesthetics. The materials in the body of a full-bodied flag is colour matched to the surface print. Full-bodied porcelain paving slabs are suitable for use on driveways when the appropriate foundations are in place.
