Bulk Bag Aggregates

Bulk bag aggregates — also known as tonne bags or builder's bags — are the most cost-effective way to buy aggregates for larger construction and landscaping projects. At Elliotts, we stock a comprehensive range of bulk bag aggregates to suit both trade and DIY projects, including: building sand, ballast, concreting grit, pea shingle, limestone scalpings, plastering sand, 40mm rejects, top soil and amenity bark.

Bulk bags typically contain around 800kg of material, saving you time on site and reducing the cost per tonne compared to smaller bagged aggregates.

Our range of bulk bag aggregates are available for local delivery and include:

  • Building sand — ideal for bricklaying, block paving and general construction
  • Ballast — a mixed aggregate perfect for mixing concrete for foundations, paths and drives
  • Concreting grit — sharp grit sand for use in concrete mixes and screeds
  • Pea shingle — 10mm rounded gravel commonly used for drainage, paths and decorative purposes
  • Limestone scalpings — a robust sub-base material ideal for driveways, hardstandings and footpaths
  • Plastering sand — a fine, clean sand specifically graded for render and plastering applications
  • 40mm rejects — a coarse crushed aggregate suited to fill, drainage and sub-base applications
  • Top soil and landscaping bark — for landscaping, garden projects and ground preparation

How much area does a bulk bag of aggregate cover?

Coverage depends on the type of aggregate and the depth you're laying it. As a general guide, an 800kg bulk bag will cover approximately:

  • 8–10m² at 50mm depth for gravel, shingle or ballast
  • 6–8m² at 50mm depth for building sand (which is denser)
  • 10–12m² at 40–50mm depth for decorative aggregates like bark or top soil
