FSC® — Forest Stewardship Council® is an independent organisation that promotes the responsible management of the world's forests. Look for FSC®-certified products on our website.
PEFC – Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes shares some common aims with FSC in promoting the sustainable management of forests through independent third party certification.
Both FSC® & PEFC operate sustainably managed forests and offer recognised and respected certification. FSC® as an organisation itself issues certificates. However, PEFC has been adapted for smaller-scale land owners and uses independent certification bodies to issue certificate.
When buying timber online, you’ll notice that “FSC® certified” or “PEFC certified” will be stated in the product specification. However, the only way to truly know if your timber is certified is to check the certification held by the merchant your purchasing from.
