Engineering Bricks

Manufactured with impressive compressive strength and low water absorption, engineering bricks can be used in both below ground and above ground construction.

Our range of Wienerberger engineering bricks features both solid and perforated configurations in red and blues to suit a range of projects.

Solid engineering bricks vs perforated engineering bricks

Feature Solid Engineering Bricks Perforated Engineering Bricks
Structure Fully solid with no holes or perforations Contain regularly spaced perforations (holes)
Strength Higher compressive strength, ideal for heavy load-bearing structures Slightly lower compressive strength but still suitable for most applications
Water Resistance Highly resistant to water absorption, ideal for damp-proof courses and foundations Resistant to water but less impervious than solid bricks
Weight Heavier due to the solid structure Lighter, making handling and transportation easier
Thermal Efficiency Lower thermal insulation properties Better insulation due to perforations
Applications
  • Load-bearing walls
  • Retaining walls
  • Foundations
  • Damp-proof courses
  • Walls where weight reduction is beneficial
  • Moderate strength structures
  • Non-load-bearing walls
Cost Typically more expensive due to higher material usage More cost-effective due to reduced material and easier handling
