Decorative aggregates and garden stones are a great way to transform gardens, driveways or outdoor spaces. Frequently asked questions about decorative aggregates
How much decorative aggregate do I need?
As a rule of thumb, allow 40–50mm depth for driveways and pathways, and 25–40mm for borders and beds.
A 20kg bag covers roughly 0.5m² at 40mm depth
800kg bulk bag covers around 8–10m²
What's the difference between chippings, pebbles and gravel?
- Chippings are angular crushed stone — great for driveways and borders as they lock together and don't roll.
- Pebbles are smooth and rounded, ideal for decorative features, water features and pots.
- Gravel is a broader term covering various small, loose stones used across garden and driveway applications.
Can I use decorative stones on a driveway?
Decorative stones can be used for driveways. Angular chippings such as our Cotswold or Black Ice chippings work particularly well on driveways as their shape helps them bind together underfoot and under tyre. We recommend a depth of at least 50mm for driveway use, laid over a weed control membrane.
