Elliotts Raise Over £1900 For Rainbow Trust After Gruelling Three Peaks Challenge
Winds so strong that you could barely stand were just some of the conditions that faced a group of our employees as they took on the Three Peaks Challenge.
A challenge not for the faint-hearted, the Three Peaks Challenge attempts to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowden in less than 24 hours.
With a total walking distance of 23 miles, an ascent of 3,064 metres and a driving distance of 462 miles, training for the challenge started many months ago.
“We knew that the challenge would be tough, so we started arranging different training walks across Hampshire & Dorset”, said Matt Adlington, Head of Trading at Elliotts.
“We completed walks along the Jurassic coast, through the New Forest and across the South Downs in preparation for the three peaks.”
Organised by Becky Rose, Business Development Manager for Civils at Elliotts, the challenge set out to raise money for Elliotts’ charity of the year, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
The charity, nominated by staff as our charity of the year, provides emotional and practical support for families that have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.
“The Three Peaks seemed the ideal challenge to raise money for the charity, tough physically but also an amazing team builder. When the world was back to normal last year, we decided to finally plan it”, said Becky Rose.
The weather was a challenge, with strong winds and poor visibility at times.
“We had stunning views up Ben Nevis, until the weather came in 20 minutes before the summit. After that we had minimal visibility and awful conditions for the rest of the challenge, making it much harder!
However, the whole trip was so much fun and made by the team. Everyone was incredibly positive even at the hardest moments, laughing, joking, and singing our way up the mountains.”
The Three Peaks Challenge team included Paul Wareham (Branch Manager, Lymington), Jenny Lee (Sales Consultant, NHB Team), Becky Rose (Business Development Manager for Civils), Matt Adlington (Head of Trading), Ian Goodenough (Business Development Director), Dan Coombes (Trading Manager, Southampton) and Jonathan Willis (Counter Supervisor, Southampton).
Team Elliotts’ Three Peaks efforts has raised over £1,900 for The Rainbow Trust so far, smashing the original £1,000 target. The JustGiving page is still open to receive donations.
