Building Material Shortages
An overview of the current market
There are many issues affecting these product shortages and price increases.
Factories that closed during the 2020 lockdown are still on catch up – leaving them with low stock levels, Brexit disruption, shortages of some raw materials, and price hikes of shipping containers to name a few.
And the Construction Leadership Council has advised builders merchants that “the availability issues we are currently experiencing are likely to worsen before they improve.”
But the good news is that we’re working hard to make sure that we have everything you need to help you build.
Which building materials are in short supply?
Due to the multiple issues affecting the industry, most building materials are experiencing some kind of supply issue.
So whether you buy your materials from us or elsewhere, the best way to ensure that you get what you need is to plan ahead.
A few key product areas to keep in mind are:
- Landscaping – it’s been a busy Spring so far and we’re working hard to keep even higher stocks of decking, paving slabs and porcelain tiles. Check out some of our product recommendations here.
- Timber – global demand is huge right now and suppliers are continuing to increase their prices. If you buy timber regularly, you'll already be well aware of this.
- Cement – there is a national shortage, but we’ve planned regular deliveries to our branches. However, we can’t guarantee our usual stock levels and there may be times when restrictions apply on cement sales.
