Aerated Block alternative solutions

Currently the supply of Aerated Blocks is suffering from reduced availability of Ash

A number of manufacturers of these blocks are having to find alternative sources for their raw materials which has also meant that factories are having to make modifications to their processing plants to ensure they are able to produce blocks to the required quality and strengths

During this period they are reducing the volumes being delivered to sites and Merchants yards

It is hoped that this is a short term situation and that full deliveries will be resumed quickly but in the meantime it has meant that it has had a serious affect on stock levels

The indications are that availability will return to normal from July onwards although it could take longer which is why we feel it is necessary to have some alternative options

To help our customers in this difficult period we are offering alternative block solutions to meet the relevant U values for both Extensions and New Build

  • options such as using a Medium Density blocks

  • additional insulation or sourcing a higher value insulation

  • alternative internal finishes

We have good stocks of these alternative products within our branch network so are confident we can help you coninue to build

To try and make things simpler for you our customer we have produced some information which will give you options to achieve the U Value you will require for your project

Below you will see some simple options using Medium Dense blocks which would acheive a U value of 0.28W/M2K which is the requirement for Extensions and refurbishments

We do also have options to acheive the New Build U value of 0.16W/M2K but would suggest you contact us so we can discuss these with you

Obviously we would also expect that you check this does meet your requirement before changing your build process or, if you have more specific requirements you can contact us and we will help with the support of our suppliers to find the best solution

At times it might mean that you either have to use full fill cavity instead of partial fill OR you may need to increase the width of your wall BUT we are here to help
